About Bobotie
Curried minced meat baked with an egg custard topping, the national dish of South Africa. A Dutch recipe from 1609 in the Cape, spiced by Malay slaves with curry powder, dried fruit, and almonds. Sweet and savory at once, served with yellow rice and chutney. The blended heritage of three continents in one dish. The word may come from the Indonesian bobotok.
