About Char Siu
Cantonese barbecue pork marinated in honey, hoisin, and five spice. The name means fork roasted, describing the skewers once required by law for hanging meat in ovens. The red tint traditionally came from fermented bean curd, often from red food coloring today. Sold hanging in shop windows across Hong Kong and Chinatowns. The star ingredient in char siu bao barbecue pork buns.
